What is the purchase cycle from sample order to coffee delivered?

What it means

How long it takes

Offer period 

The period between when fresh samples first become available and shipment closing date.

As different producers have samples ready at different times, new samples come up regularly!

During this time roasters place sample orders  and contract the coffee of their choice.

6 - 20 weeks (small sellers leave coffees on offer for shorter periods due to financing)

Export preparation period

Custom shipments: The time between sending the purchase contract to the exporter and having the container ready to ship. 

Shared shipments: The time between shipment closing date and having the container ready to ship. 

Custom shipments: 20 - 30 days

 

Shared shipments: up to 45 days after shipment closed date.

Shipping period

The time it takes for a container to travel from the port of origin to the port of destination.

17 - 60 days

Customs clearance

Approval of documents and payment of duties, taxes and other additional costs. It also includes approval of landed samples.

7 - 10 days

Inter-warehouse transfer

The movement of coffee from the main destination warehouse to the final warehouse contracted by the roaster.
